Cookie Policy
Last updated 15 October 2026
This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies we use on this website, what each one does, how long it lasts and the choices you have.
1. About This Policy
This policy explains how TCW uses cookies and similar technologies on this website. TCW is The Compliance Workbook Ltd, trading as TCW, registered in England and Wales under company number 08760486, with its registered office at 5 Bridge Street, Birkenhead, Wirral CH41 1AS.
It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally. Where a cookie involves personal data, both policies apply.
We keep this site deliberately light. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not sell information collected by cookies, and we do not run cross-site tracking.
2. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device, so the site can remember something about your visit. Similar technologies do the same job in a slightly different way, including browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage), pixels and tags. In this policy we call all of them "cookies" for simplicity.
Some cookies are set by us and are called first-party cookies. Others are set by third parties whose services appear on our pages, such as a video player, and are controlled by those third parties rather than by us.
3. The Categories We Use
- Strictly necessary — required for the website to work, for example keeping authorised staff signed in while they move between pages. These cannot be switched off in our systems and do not require consent.
- Analytics and performance — anonymous information about how many people visit, which pages they read and how long they stay, so we can improve the site. These are only set after you have consented through the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
- Third-party embedded content — video players such as YouTube and Wistia may set their own cookies when you choose to play a video.
We do not use targeting, advertising or social-media tracking cookies on this website.
4. The Cookies and Storage We Use
- Sign-in storage (first party, browser storage) — holds the session token for authorised staff who sign in to manage website content, so they are not asked to sign in again on every page. It lasts until they sign out or the session expires, and is not used to track anyone else.
- Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*, _gid, _gat) — counts visits and shows which pages are useful, so we can see what content matters to our readers. The _ga cookie lasts up to 13 months, _gid up to 24 hours and _gat a few minutes. These cookies are only set if you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner; if you decline, no analytics cookies are set.
- YouTube (VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, YSC and similar) — set by Google when you play an embedded YouTube video, to measure playback and manage advertising. VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE lasts up to six months. YouTube's own privacy policy explains how Google uses this information.
- Wistia — set when you play a Wistia-hosted video, to measure playback and collect viewing statistics. Wistia's privacy policy covers its use.
Cookie names and lifetimes are set by the providers and can change without notice. If you want the exact list of cookies present during a visit, your browser's storage or developer tools will show them to you.
5. Managing Cookies
You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Guidance for every major browser is at aboutcookies.org. Blocking strictly necessary storage means authorised staff will not be able to stay signed in, and parts of the site may not work as intended.
You can change your analytics choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the website footer. You can also stop Google using your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
When you first visit the site you will see a cookie banner asking whether you accept analytics cookies. Strictly necessary storage is always on because the site cannot work without it; analytics cookies are only set if you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site and our tools change. The latest version is always published on this page with the date it was last updated.
