THE RECOGNITION
A Room Full of Giants
On 23 November 2022 the TCW team joined the electrical safety community at the Electrical Product Safety Conference 2022 — #ESF22 #ESPC22 — at Church House in Westminster.
It was a proud day for a very special reason: TCW had been shortlisted for Electrical Safety First's coveted Safety Innovation Award.
As CEO Ryan Dempsey put it ahead of the announcement, to be shortlisted in the category was an honour — and while fingers were crossed for the win, he confessed to feeling “very small in a room full of giants”.
The Electrical Product Safety Conference
Now in its 14th year, the Electrical Product Safety Conference brings together experts and leaders from across the industry to explore critical issues, solutions and insight in safer electrical products — from conception, through manufacture and production to sale.
The 2022 programme was chaired by Katie Prescott, Technology Business Editor at The Times, and featured a keynote from Kevin Hollinrake MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, alongside a popular regulators' panel with senior representatives from OPSS, DEFRA, DCMS and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
Sessions ranged from achieving sustainability in the home to ensuring safe extended product life — a must-attend event for designers, retailers, manufacturers, testing houses, regulators and safety experts.
The Safety Innovation Award
The Safety Innovation Award recognises businesses that put safety, sustainability and innovation at the heart of product development — exactly the ethos TCW brings to compliance management in housing.
On the day, the award went to Connected Innovations for its innovative smart socket outlet, backed by a core safety and communications system that monitors a range of external factors and can prevent the overheating that can otherwise lead to fire — a product inspired by the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire.
To be shortlisted alongside innovators of that calibre was recognition of how far TCW's ground-breaking, totally unique technology had come — and of the people in the business and the clients who make the whole thing work.
Proud of the Product, Proud of the People
Ryan's reflection on the day says it all: “Really can't explain how incredibly proud I am of TCW as a product and all the people who have helped build our ground breaking and totally unique tech software. The people in this business and the clients we have really do make the whole thing work.”
He also thanked the organisers for the opportunity to attend and listen to the great speakers at #ESF22 #ESPC22 — “good luck everyone”.
What Came Next
The recognition didn't stop at the shortlist. The following year, TCW went on to be Highly Commended at the Electrical Safety First Safety Innovation Awards — proof that the room full of giants had taken notice.
"To be shortlisted in this category is an honour. Fingers crossed we win but I feel very small in a room full of giants."
